Pedulla Studio Monthly Newsletter No.3

Edition Three - July 2025

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

There’s been more office work this month than I’d prefer. To be honest I thought the transition from client work to no client work would be easier but there’s a lot of planning and organising involved in things like merch, project plans, and gearing up for one of my biggest videos yet.

Oh and have I mentioned that Eliza and I are expecting our first baby in October!! So there’s been a ton of work getting ready for him to arrive. I’m currently working on his very own tool wall for his bedroom.

The merch and plans side of things should be easier moving forward. All the work is in the setup. Finding the right suppliers and getting the best materials for a decent price point. Having small businesses handle the products is important to me but this also has its complications. But all is looking good and I’m very excited about the first release.

The plans have been an interesting exercise. I’ve been working with someone to create the step by step plans based off of my initial drawings but because the recent Walnut & Brass Side Tables were so precise, the conversion from millimetres into inches left some pretty crazy numbers. Like 2 18/25 or something. So we’ve slightly redesigned the imperial version to make more sense.  The plans will also include the extended video series with an intro video explaining different construction methods and material options, SketchUp and Fusion 360 files, DXF + SVG template files and plans in both Metric and Imperial.

Also, the Designer Interview Series is officially wrapped. Ten interviews filmed and ready to go. I’ll be releasing one each week over the next ten weeks, exclusively on Patreon.

THIS MONTHS FAVOURITES

Favourite Tip

My favourite tip this month came from the Designer Interview series. It was something that came up again and again: “Keep it simple.”

Refine your designs, strip them back to the essentials, and make sure every part has a purpose.

That really hit home for me after building the Whisky Cabinet as it was such an over-the-top piece that I knew I wanted a future project to be more restrained, like a dining table. In fact, it was right after finishing that cabinet that I had the idea to start interviewing designers to get their take on design. So hearing them echo that advice to keep things simple really resonated.

Favourite Video

My Favourite video from this month isn’t even released yet although it was finished weeks ago (there’s unfortunately been a few complications with certain announcements etc). But the YouTube version of the Walnut & Brass Side Tables has been an enjoyable one to make. I go into detail about one of my worst client experiences ever while building a piece for my two favourite clients.
The video will be out in two Sundays time.

My other favourite video was released a couple of days ago and goes into Productivity and Time Management. Yes, its a boring topic but it’s wildly important to be organised not only while building your piece, but also when running a business.

Favourite Moment

Receiving my T-Shirt samples was a pretty surreal experience. I mean I’ve had work shirts made before so its not unusual to see my business name on my shirt, but knowing that I’ll be selling these T-shirts to those that are willing to wear them is kinda crazy, and very cool.
I’m still waiting on a couple of things but will have an early release on Patreon next week!

Whats Going On With Patreon

RANT TIME!

So once again I’m struggling with the whole ‘Free Patreon Membership Giveaway’ thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love Patreon as a platform. It allows people to express themselves without having to worry about algorithms burying your hard work. BUT, sometimes it can be a little clunky. Having said that, it is a fairly new platform and believe it or not, they actually listen to creators. Ive complained about a bunch of stuff in the past about some of its features and in no time those features are implemented into the platform. Good luck ever seeing that on Instagram!
Hopefully they’ll listen to my most recent complaint. As it turns out, even though you can gift a free months membership to people, you cant gift it to current Paying Members and you can’t gift it to Free Members. You can only gift a membership to people who aren’t signed up. Which feels counterintuitive as it ends up being a disadvantage to those who have already shown support. Apologies I should have looked into this thoroughly.
So unfortunately, for the time being, I’m going to have to hold off on the free memberships until I can sort something out, but a big thank you to those who left a comment on my last newsletter post. Looks as though a bunch of you want to see me build a chair. Let’s just say, my dining table is gonna need some at some point.

OK rant over.

Big things are going to start on Patreon as of next week! The dining table has been started (first video here) and the designer interviews are going to start getting released as of next week. One per week for the next 10 weeks! Im very excited for you to see these videos! If you want to see who’s involved you can click here

MAKER OF THE MONTH - PHILIP MORLEY

You’re most likely are no stranger to Phil’s work. Ive been a big fan for a long time but after our interview together last week I feel like I have a new appreciation, not only for his design abilities, or for how he’s taken control of his career path, but also for how thoughtful he is about his work (without ever coming off as pretentious).
Both Philip and I tend to build a lot of Record Cabinets but his story as to why he likes making them really hit home and is a good insight into why nostalgia can be a great design tool.
Back when Philip was a kid his dad would play records every Sunday. That memory is etched in his mind, and now it’s a ritual he shares with his own family.
Philip mentioned that his clients aren’t buying record cabinets from him simply for the sake of having one, they are buying these cabinets because they want to relive those memories from decades ago while recreating the same experience with their children today.
Philips interview will be the first one released next week so stay tuned!

What’s Up Next

As Ive already mentioned, the Dining table build has begun and will really start kicking off in the next week or so. To be honest, I still don’t have a final design for this piece so I am going in somewhat blindly. I mean I do have about ten okay designs and three that I'’m quite happy with, but I feel like something’s missing. Or maybe that feeling is the unnecessary pressure I’ve put on myself by trying to design a dining table inspired by the philosophies of some of the greatest furniture makers of our time. WHILE DOCUMENTING IT.

Smart move, right?

What I didn’t realise when I came up with the idea for this video is I’m now putting my design chops up against the top 10! Whoops.

I guess time will tell if I can pull it off but at this point I’m struggling to hold onto the wise advice to “Keep It Simple” as I naturally want to go nuts. But I’m still confident I can do a bit of both for this piece.

Thanks for your time
